
Red Raiders Taken Down by No. 12 Illinois, 4-1

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team dropped their final match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend by a score of 4-1 to No. 12 Illinois.
The Red Raiders fell behind early in Saturday's match, dropping doubles matches on courts one and three.
Tech would pick up their lone match point with a straight-set victory by senior Bjorn Thomson on court six, 6-1, 6-3. Thomson has started his final campaign as a Red Raider with three-straight victories against power five competition.
The Fighting Illini would go on to capture the match with a trio of singles wins, beginning with a two-set defeat of No. 114-ranked Reed Collier on court three by No. 61 Zeke Clark, 6-4, 6-0. Kovacevic of Illinois would take the third point with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Parker Wynn and the fourth via a 6-2, 6-3 win on court five by Budic over Vittar.
Tech's loss drops them to 3-2 on the season.
