LADY RAIDER RECAP: No. 1/2 Baylor 87, Texas Tech 79

WACO, Texas  – The Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball team put up an outstanding effort against No. 1/2 Baylor on Saturday afternoon, but came up short of upsetting the defending national champions, 87-79 at the Ferrell Center. The Lady Raiders' 79 points are the most anyone has scored on the Bears all season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Raiders were led by a trio of double-digit scorers, led by senior Brittany Brewer with a season high 24 on 10-of-17 shooting to go along with nine rebounds and a block.

Lexi Gordon tied her career high in threes with four on her way to an 18-point outing, paired with five rebounds and two assists. Sophomore point guard Chrislyn Carr recorded 16 points, seven rebounds and a season-high four steals.

Texas Tech got off to a hot start scoring the ball, hitting six three pointers in the opening quarter. Brewer and Gordon both scored in double figures through the first two minutes, as Gordon hit three triples to finish with 11 points in the frame, and Brewer tallied 10 with three boards. The Bears would edge the Lady Raiders, 27-26, in the opening period.

Carr and Andrayah Adams each scored five in the second quarter to help keep the Lady Raiders within striking distance heading into halftime. Tech finished the half with six three pointers and trailed the Bears, 49-42.

The Bears went on a run to extend the lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Raiders, 25-14; however, the Lady Raiders were able to close the gap in the fourth.

Tech outscored Baylor, 23-13, in the fourth quarter—the second-biggest deficit in a fourth quarter by Baylor this season. Led by Brewer's 10 points in the final frame, the Lady Raiders held Baylor scoreless over the final 2:15 of the fourth quarter while going on an 8-0 run of their own to finish the game.

- For the first time this season, Texas Tech went with the starting five of Chrislyn Carr, Andrayah Adams, Nailah Dillard, Lexi Gordon and Brittany Brewer. The Lady Raiders moved to 0-1 this season when deploying this starting five.
- It marked freshman Nailah Dillard's first collegiate start.
- Texas Tech scored 42 points in the first half, tying the most points allowed in a half by Baylor this season (Washington State, 2nd half, Nov. 28). The Lady Raiders finished with 79 points, surpassing No. 1 South Carolina for the most points scored on the Bears this season.
- Tech hit six three pointers in the first quarter, led by Lexi Gordon with three, to trail by only one after the first 10 minutes. The Lady Raiders finished with 12 triples--just two short of tying the school record. It's the most three's allowed by Baylor this season.
- Gordon and Brewer both finished the first quarter in double-figure scoring, Brewer with 10 points and Gordon with 11.
- Brittany Brewer finished just one rebound shy of her ninth double-double of the season, but recorded a new season high in scoring with 24 points.
- Gordon tied her season high in threes with four.
- Brewer's nine rebounds moved her into ninth place on the program career rebounds list with 794, surpassing Plenette Pierson and Cisti Greenwalt.
