LADY RAIDER RECAP: Texas Tech 80, TCU 76

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball team earned its first Big 12 win of the year, defeating TCU on the road, 80-76, on Tuesday night. It marked Tech's first win over the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth in seven seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Raiders were led by five double-digit scorers, including Jo'Nah Johnson who turned in her second 20-point outing of the season, along with six assists.

Lexi Gordon and Sydney Goodson each tallied 15 points playing close to their hometowns, with Gordon recording her second career double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Chrislyn Carr had 13 points on the night with three assists and three rebounds.

Led by seven points from Goodson, Texas Tech got out to an early, 18-16 lead after the first quarter. The Horned Frogs led by as many as four for much of the opening frame, but a 9-3 run to end the Lady Raiders gave Tech the lead after the first 10 minutes.

The Lady Raiders inflated their first-half lead to as many as 16 in the second quarter before taking a 44-30 lead into the locker room. Texas Tech outscored TCU, 26-14, in the second, and shot 61.1 percent from the field. Carr scored eight points in the period, followed closely by Tucker with seven.

TCU would close the gap in the third quarter, outscoring Tech, 26-16, in the frame to cut the advantage down to four. The Lady Raiders led, 60-56, after three, following a Gordon buzzer beater in the lane.

The Horned Frogs would briefly take a 66-64 lead midway through the fourth, but Tech was able to get a couple of free throws from Brittany Brewer to tie it up before Goodson hit a three-pointer to put Tech ahead for good.

After TCU cut the lead to one, it was Chrislyn Carr that stepped up and hit a three pointer to stretch the lead back to 74-70 with under a minute left. It was Gordon, Johnson and Carr who iced the game at the free-throw line, with all three going 2-for-2 when getting the opportunity to keep the lead.

- For the third time this season, Texas Tech went with the starting five of Chrislyn Carr, Jo'Nah Johnson, Sydney Goodson, Lexi Gordon and Brittany Brewer. The Lady Raiders moved to 3-0 this season when deploying this starting five.
- Texas Tech outscored TCU, 26-14, in the second quarter to take a 44-30 lead into half. Five Lady Raiders had five or more points in the first half, led by Sydney Goodson and Jo'Nah Johnson with 10.
- The Lady Raiders held TCU with no field goals in the final 3:40 of the second quarter.
- Five Lady Raiders ended the game in double-figure scoring, led by Jo'Nah Johnson with 20 points to go along with six assists and three rebounds.
- Junior Lexi Gordon recorded her second career double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. It marked her career high in rebounds and was her fourth-straight game in double-figure scoring.
- Sydney Goodson finished with 15 points and four rebounds in her homecoming game. Goodson hit the go-ahead three pointer late in the fourth to give Tech the lead it wouldn't give up.
- Tech's 51 rebounds tied a season high.
