Lady Raider Tennis Hosts Second Tournament of Fall Season
October 01, 2020 | Women's Tennis
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider tennis team continues its fall season this weekend as it hosts the West Texas Pro Tennis October Open.
The tournament begins on Friday, Oct. 2 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 4 at Burgess Rushing Tennis Center.
The event, like the West Texas September Open last month, is part of the Universal Tennis Rating Open Series. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in an effort to maintain social distancing, the event will feature only singles for both men's and women's draws.
Nell Miller, Olivia Peet and Kaitlin Staines each competed unattached at the West Texas September Open last month. Miller advanced to the round of 16 at the event with a win over Reya Coe and picked up three wins overall on the weekend. An All-American transfer from Tennessee, Staines advanced to the round of 16 at the event as well. Peet bounced back from a tough first round loss to advance to the back draw semifinals.
Camryn Stepp and Olivia Mikkelson will also compete at the event after turning in strong efforts in their Lady Raider debuts last month.
Lady Raider fans will also get their first look at freshman Kailey Evans, who signed with Texas Tech last spring. A blue chip recruit from Ennis, Texas, Evans has been ranked as high as No. 13 nationally in the class of 2020 by TennisRecruiting.net.
