Lady Raiders Continue Strong Showing in College Station

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider Tennis team continued an impressive weekend at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational on Saturday, combining to go 5-1 on the day.

Following Friday's showing in which the Lady Raiders went 2-1 in doubles and 3-1 in singles, the team posted a perfect, 2-0 Saturday in doubles and went 3-1 in singles play.

Matched up against Texas State, the Lady Raiders picked up a couple of wins against the Bobcats to open the day.

Kailey Evans and Kaitlin Staines earned their first win in the duo's first contest together on the weekend, defeating Rishona Israel-Lewis and Hana Kvapilova, 6-4. Nell Miller and Olivia Mikkelson teamed up to drop Andrea Fuchs and Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez, 6-2.

Miller, Evans and Mikkelson each earned singles wins against opponents from LSU and Texas State to close out the day, while Staines dropped a tough three-setter to LSU's Safiya Carrington—who finished the 2020 season ranked No. 72.

Miller picked up her second singles victory of the weekend, dropping Nina Giesler of LSU, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. Mikkelson also picked up her second singles win of the tournament, dropping Murcia-Rodriguez of Texas State, 6-3, 6-0.

Evans got her first singles win of the weekend, winning in straight sets over Samantha Buyckx, 6-3, 6-3.

Play for the final day of action in College Station will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday with one round of doubles and one round of singles.
