Texas Tech Men’s Tennis adds to the 2021 roster.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head men's tennis coach Danny announced Wednesday the addition Takeyasu (Take) Sekiguchi to the 2021 signing class.
Sekiguchi comes to Lubbock from the prestigious Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, CA. According to tennisrecruiting.net, Take has been ranked as high as 20th in his recruiting class, and currently ranks him as a 5 star recruit.
"I chose Texas Tech because of its school atmosphere." said Take. "Especially due to the special coaches and competitive athletic programs, that allow student-athletes to challenge their very best."
Born on August 16th, 2002 to Kenichi and Etsu Sekiguchi, Take will add depth to an already deep roster. His on-court toughness is ideal for the culture established with the locker room.
Whitehead on Sekiguchi:
"In this recruiting process, several things stood out to Mike and I about Take. His communication was one of the best I have seen and the questions he asked showed his desire to choose a place that is best suited for his long-term success in the classroom and in tennis. Mike and I both had a strong connection with him in our conversations feeling like he will fit in great with our current locker room and that he understands our expectations in joining Texas Tech tennis. Take has struggled with an injury this past year and while he has showed over the last 3 years that he is one of the best American players, we were honest with him in acknowledging his road ahead to continue to be one of the best players coming in to college tennis next year. Take is an impressive young man that I believe has an extremely bright future ahead of him in the next 4-5 years. I can't wait to get him on court with us and the Texas Tech tennis community will enjoy watching him compete."
