LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team concluded their fall season Monday at the Kissing Tree Invitational as four Red Raiders finished in the top 25, which included another top-five finish from Sofia Garcia.
Garcia notched her 14th career top-five showing after carding a 1-under-par 71 final round that pushed her into a tie for fourth overall. It was the third top-10 finish already this season for Garcia, who was coming off a runner-up performance just over a week ago at the Cowgirl Classic hosted by Oklahoma State.
Garcia sank six birdies during the final 18 holes alone, giving her 16 for the tournament, which ranked tied for third among the 49-player field. She was particularly effective on the Kissing Tree Golf Club's par-5 locations as she drained four birdies there Monday en route to leading the tournament at 10-under for the four holes.
Cecilie Nielsen matched Garcia with a similar 1-under final round that included a stretch of 11-consecutive holes at par or better to finish in a tie for 17th place with teammate Gala Dumez. The duo ended the tournament tied at 2-over as Dumez shot a 75 to close the event.
Anna Dong continued her consistent play, posting her fourth top-25 finish in as many tournaments this fall after a 1-under round of her own that pushed her a stroke back of both Nielsen and Dumez in a tie for 22nd place. Additionally, Louisa Brunt added an even par final round to place in a tie for 31st, while Valentina Gilly and Amy Taylor finished in a tie for 36th after 2-over and 4-over cards, respectively.
Lianna Bailey of Oklahoma State took home medalist honors after signing a 7-under 65 card Monday to finish the tournament at 14-under, which was one stroke better than Elodie Chapelet of Baylor and her fellow Cowgirl teammate Isabella Fierro.
The Red Raiders will take roughly three months off before resuming the 2020-21 slate at the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational on Feb. 1-2 in Dallas. Tech will play in seven tournaments this spring leading up to the Big 12 Championships in Houston on April 18-20.
