Red Raiders Ranked No. 17 in AP Top-25 Poll

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech is at No. 17 in the first Associated Press Top-25 Poll of the season which was released on Monday.
The Red Raiders, who were at No. 14 in the AP Preseason Poll, are 2-1 through their first three games, opening with an impressive 101-58 win over Northwestern State followed by an 84-52 victory over Sam Houston last Friday. Tech took its only loss with a 64-53 defeat to Houston on Sunday in a neutral-court game at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.
Mac McClung is leading the Red Raiders with 18.0 points per game after starting the season shooting 16-for-32 from the field and 18-for-22 at the free-throw line. A transfer from Georgetown, McClung currently ranks fifth in scoring in the Big 12. Marcus Santos-Silva has recorded two double-doubles through two games and is averaging 9.3 rebounds and 8.7 points per game, while Kyler Edwards is second in the conference with 12 assists. A junior guard, Edwards is averaging 8.0 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game. Santos-Silva's two double-doubles are the most in the Big 12 through the first week of play.
Gonzaga top (2-0) tops the AP Top-25 rankings this week, followed by Baylor (2-0), Iowa (2-0), Wisconsin (2-0) and Illinois (3-0). The Big 12 also has Kansas (1-1) at No. 7, No. 11 West Virginia (3-0) and Texas (1-0) which is tied at No. 17 in the poll with the Red Raiders.
