Texas Tech alumnae will make her fifth appearance at the U.S. Women’s Open this week in Houston
LUBBOCK, Texas – Kim Kaufman will make her fifth career appearance at the U.S. Women's Open beginning Thursday when the Texas Tech alumnae tees off at 10:04 a.m. from Champions Golf Club in Houston.
Â
Kaufman will be paired with Kana Mikashima and amateur Amelia Garvey during Thursday's opening round as the trio will play the Cypress Creek course before moving to the Jackrabbit course for Friday's second round. The pairing is expected to start from the par-4 10th hole.
Â
Originally from Clark, South Dakota, Kaufman is now a Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex resident, making this the first time she has played a U.S. Open in her new home state. She previously made two cuts in the major, finishing tied for 35th in 2015 and then 32nd a year later.
Â
Kaufman earned an exemption into the 2020 field as she finished third on the Symetra Tour money list over the course of the 2020 season, hauling in $44,459 after recording six top-20 showings in 10 starts. She claimed her third Symetra Tour title this past September, winning the Four Winds Invitational to cement her spot as a LPGA member where she has played primarily the past seven years.
Â
Since joining the LPGA Tour in 2014, Kaufman has made 157 career starts with 12 top-10 results and a career-best finish of tied for second at the 2015 Blue Bay LPGA. At only the age of 29, Kaufman is quickly approaching $1.5 million in career earnings, easily placing her among the top professional players in program history.
Â
Kaufman remains a key fixture in Tech history as she concluded her tenure in 2013 with a 74.0 career stroke average that was, at the time, the lowest in program history. She is the only player in school history to garner All-America status twice in a career as she was an honorable mention selection as a junior in 2012 and then a second-team honoree by Golfweek in 2013.
Â
Coverage of the U.S. Women's Open will be provided from 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and then 2-5 p.m. Friday on the Golf Channel before moving over to NBC for the two weekend rounds.
