Texas Tech ranked No. 1 in the country for the first time since 1997
LUBBOCK, Texas – Following a hot start to its 2020 campaign, Texas Tech Baseball took over as the No. 1 team in the country in polls from the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Â
This is the fourth time in program history Tech has been ranked No. 1. The 1997 squad held the top spot in Collegiate Baseball's poll for three straight weeks.
Â
The Red Raiders were ranked preseason No. 3 by both polls entering the season and moved up after outscoring its opening-weekend opponents, 65-11, including a pair of run-rule victories.

Texas Tech also moved up in Baseball America's poll from sixth to fourth. Tech held firm in the D1Baseball poll at No. 6 and Perfect Game rankings at No. 3. Tech was also preseason No. 3 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, which resumes three weeks into the season.

Four strong starts on the mound and an explosive offensive attack helped pave the way for a dominant showing against Houston Baptist and Northern Colorado. The Red Raider offense leads the nation in batting average, slugging and on base percentage. It is also tied for the national lead in home runs and ranks second in scoring at 16.3 runs per game.
