Klein Named to Bragan Award National Watch List
February 19, 2020 | Baseball
A Red Raider has won two of the first three Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Awards
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Brian Klein was one of 36 players from around the country to be placed on the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award (BBCSA) Watch List, the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation announced Tuesday.
Â
Klein, a preseason All-American by three publications, is also present on the Golden Spikes Award Watch List, which is presented annually to the top player in college baseball. The senior returns as the team's top offensive threat, hitting .315 a year ago while helping the Red Raiders to the Big 12 title and back-to-back trips to the College World Series.
Â
A Red Raider has been honored with the award in two of its three years of existence as Hunter Hargrove took home the inaugural award in 2017 before Josh Jung collected the honor last season.
Â
The BBCSA is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity. It began in 2017 as an honor going to the top college hitter in Texas before expanding to a regional award in 2019 that covered Division I programs in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma. In 2020, it has expanded once more to a national award.
Â
The winner of the BBCSA will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall at the Fort Worth Club.
Â
Klein and the Red Raiders travel to one of the nation's top tournaments this weekend as they battle Tennessee, Stanford and Houston at the Round Rock Classic.
