Moretti Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

LUBBOCK, Texas – Accuracy on the court and in the classroom has earned Texas Tech junior Davide Moretti a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for the second straight year.
A guard and human science major from Italy, Moretti was named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team last season along with being named the NCAA Elite 90 Award winner at the Final Four to honor his excellence in the classroom. He is currently averaging 13.5 points per game this season and maintains a 3.68 GPA at Texas Tech University. Along with Moretti, the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 team consists of Freddie Gillespie (Baylor), Brady Manek (Oklahoma), Emmanuel Nzekwesi (Oral Roberts) and Matt Pile (Nebraska-Omaha).
The 2019-20 Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.
Moretti led the Red Raiders with 18 points in their win over Kansas State on Wednesday after he hit four 3-pointers for the fifth game this season. He leads the Big 12 this season by shooting 89.4 percent from the free-throw line (84 of 94) and is second on the NCAA active career list at 90.3 percent (205 of 227). Along with his free-throw prowess, Moretti has scored 917 points and has made 158 3-pointers in his career.
The Red Raiders (17-9, 8-5 Big 12) have won four of their last five games and will now play Iowa State at 5 p.m. on Saturday in Ames, Iowa. Tech earned a 72-52 win over the Cyclones in the first matchup between the two teams.
