Texas Tech, Florida State tee it up one more time on Sunday
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Clutch hitting from sophomores Cole Stilwell and Dru Baker helped No. 2 Texas Tech baseball erase a pair of deficits and go on to capture the road win at No. 9 Florida State, 6-5 in 11 innings, on Saturday in front of over 5,400 fans at Dick Howser Stadium
Â
The Seminoles (8-2) scored three runs in the fourth to carry a 4-1 lead into the fifth, when Stilwell provided an answer with a three-run double down the right field line to tie it at 4-4. FSU regained the advantage with a run in the sixth and maintained a 5-4 edge going to the ninth. With one away in the frame, Baker launched a 1-2 pitch over the monster in right field to send it to extras.
Â
The lead swung in Tech's favor in the top of the 11th. Freshman Dillon Carter drew a leadoff walk, and came around to score all the way from first on a one-out infield single from junior Dylan Neuse and throwing error by the third baseman as he attempted to get the speedy Neuse out at first. The ball went wide of the first baseman and into foul ground in right, allowing Carter to blaze all the way around.
Â
The Red Raider bullpen picked up its third win of the season with Eli Riechmann, Micah Dallas and John McMillon (1-0) combining for 7.0 innings of one-run ball. Dallas struck out five and allowed a run in 3.2 innings, while McMillon earned his first win of the year with seven of his eight outs coming from strikeouts.
Â
At the top of the order, Baker, Neuse, Stilwell and senior Brian Klein all had multi-hit games. Stilwell finished with two doubles and four RBI, while Neuse and Carter scored two runs each.
