February 03, 2020 | Women's Golf
DALLAS, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team concluded Monday's SMU/DAC Challenge at the Dallas Athletic Club in second place to begin their spring season.
The Red Raiders were captained by Anna Dong in Monday's 36-hole affair, as the sophomore from Guangzhou, China fired off rounds of 74 and 71 to finish the tournament in solo second place, just one shot back of her first title at Tech. Her second-place posting to begin the spring campaign was the best finish of her young career. Dong led the field in par-three scoring with a total of 1-under on the day.
Freshman Gala Dumez recorded the first top-five outing of her Red Raider career with a 74 and 77 to tie for fifth place. Dumez notched five birdies on Monday, which was the third most in the field. She was one of only seven players in the tournament to finish the day under-par on par fives with a scoring average of 4.88.
Cecilie Nielsen, who competed in the season-opener as an individual participant, was the third Red Raider to finalize play in the top-10. Nielsen bounced back from an opening 81 with a second-round 72, good enough to tie for 7th. Her top-10 showing was the first of the season.
Juniors Sofia Garcia and Amy Taylor rounded out team scoring for Tech in a tie for 18th with combined totals of 161. Louisa Brunt tied for 31st with a Monday total of 168.
The SMU/DAC Challenge was Tech's third second-place finish of the year in six tournaments.
The Red Raiders will return to action on February 9-11 as they travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to participate in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
