Red Raiders Travel to Mississippi for Trio of Matches

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Texas Tech men's tennis team will carry on their non-conference slate with three matches in the state of Mississippi this weekend.
The Red Raiders (3-3) are set to begin the weekend with a match against Tulane on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT before concluding their road trip with matches against No. 20 Mississippi State and Mississippi Valley State on Sunday at noon and 8 p.m., respectively.
RED RAIDERS IN THE RANKINGS:
The Oracle/ITA Division I men's singles and doubles rankings were updated for the first time in 2020 on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Ilgiz Valiev reached the highest ranking of his career following a stellar fall and start the spring semester as the No. 62-ranked singles player in the nation. Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn, who earned All-Big 12 and All-America honors a year ago, checked in at No. 60 in the doubles rankings.
QUICK HITS:
The Red Raiders are 5-2 all-time against Tulane, including a 1-0 mark on neutral courts. Tech is 2-4 against the Bulldogs and won their only match in Starkville in the spring of 2015, when they took down then-No. 23 Mississippi State, 4-2.
Sunday night will be the first meeting between the Red Raiders and the Delta Devils.
The Red Raiders are a combined 18-16 in singles dual matches this spring. Thomson currently leads the way in wins with a 3-1 record to begin his senior campaign.
Tech previously faced Mississippi State a year ago when they dropped their only non-conference home match of the season with a 4-2 loss to the then No. 3-ranked Bulldogs in Lubbock.
Sunday's match will mark the fourth ranked opponent for Tech in five matches. The Red Raiders' last win against a ranked opponent in a true away match was a 4-2 victory a year ago over then No. 33-ranked UCF in Orlando on March 14.
