Garcia Earns Golfweek All-America Nod
April 28, 2020 | Women's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech junior women's golfer Sofia Garcia was selected to Golfweek Magazine's All-America Second Team on Tuesday.
Tuesday's honor by Golfweek is the first of Garcia's career.
Garcia's selection was the third of her career as she notched second team honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) earlier this month. She is a two-time recipient of the award from the WGCA.
Garcia is a consensus top-20 collegiate golfer as she wrapped up the shortened 2019-20 season at No. 16 in the Golfstat individual poll and No. 18 in the Golfweek rankings. She is the third-highest ranked member of the Big 12 Conference.
With a team-leading scoring average of 72, Garcia made her mark for the Red Raiders this season with six top-10 finishes, including five in the top-five. She began the 2019 fall session with an individual title at the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational in September and tied her own program-record with a 64 in the final round of play.
She totaled 17 rounds of even par or better, a team best. Her efforts caught the attention of international competition as well, as she was invited to compete in the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup for the second-straight year, representing the international squad at Bay Hill Club in December.
