LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech men's tennis head coach Daniel Whitehead announced the addition of transfer Dimitrios Azoidis to a National Letter of Intent on Friday. Azoidis began his career and played the last two seasons at Abilene Christian University.
"Dimitrios is an exciting player," Whitehead said. "He is going to fit in right away. He has some good experience and results in professional tournaments and against top teams on the collegiate level. His desire to improve is obvious. After talking with him, I am extremely confident he will blend right in to our team environment. I can't wait to get to work with him soon."
Azoidis was named the 2019 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year for his 2019 campaign where he posted an 18-9 record in singles. He notched a solo victory at No. 41 Florida State at the No. 4 position and earned Southland Conference Player of the Week and Commissioner's Honor Roll honors.
During his shortened sophomore season, Azoidis recorded a 7-4 mark in singles, playing primarily at the No. 2 singles spot to couple four wins on the doubles side.
Azoidis has also found success on the professional tour, where he has taken down 10 opponents from the ITF, ATP and Davis Cup. He has reached a world ranking of No. 1,437 in singles and 1,403 in doubles.
Azoidis hails from Limassol, Cyprus where he attended Lanitio Lyceum prior to signing with the Wildcats.
