September 21, 2020 | Women's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach JoJo Robertson announced the 2020-21 women's golf schedule Friday, featuring 11 tournaments leading in to the Big 12 Championships in late-April.
Following a shortened 2019-20 campaign, the Red Raiders will look to bounce back with seven competitions in Texas, including stops in Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Marcos and San Antonio. The Red Raiders will also compete in a trio of tournaments in the neighboring states of Oklahoma and New Mexico.
"We are excited to announce our schedule and look forward to our first event this weekend," head coach JoJo Robertson said. "It will be great to compete again after six months of not having collegiate golf. We have some very strong events this fall that will allow us to see the Big 12 teams more than usual. We also have two new players on our team that I am looking forward to watching compete."
The Red Raiders will begin their season on Sept. 27-28 with a trip to Moore, Oklahoma for the annual Schooner Fall Classic before heading to Austin for the Betsy Rawls Classic on Oct. 10-11, where they most recently finished in fifth place in the fall of 2018.
A brief break in mid-October will be followed with the Cowgirl Classic in Stillwater on Oct. 22-23 before the final fall event at the Kissing Tree Invitational in San Marcos on the first of November.
The spring season will open up with a return to the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational on Feb. 1, where Tech recorded a second-place finish to begin the 2019 fall session. The Red Raiders will make their lone appearance on the east coast a week later at the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate in Sarasota, Florida on Feb 7-9 before competing in ICON Invitational in Houston for the third-consecutive season in late-February.
An outing in San Antonio at the Maryb S Kauth Invitational in early-March will be followed by the BYU Invitational on March 15-16. Tech will wrap up the regular season with the Bruzzy Challenge in Dallas on March 28-29 and the McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque on April 11-12.
Postseason play will begin for the Red Raiders at the Big 12 Championships on April 18-20 in Houston before the NCAA Regional round on May 10-12. The top six finishing teams from each of the four regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championships on May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale.
Robertson returns every member of the 2019-20 squad, including All-American and Augusta National Women's Amateur competitor Sofia Garcia. Seniors Louisa Brunt and Amy Taylor will join juniors Anna Dong and Cecilie Nielsen and sophomore Gala Dumez to round out the top-six scorers from a year ago.
The Red Raiders will also bring in a pair of fresh faces in freshman Pyrene Delample of France and Florida International transfer Valentina Gilly. Sophomore Abby Van Cleave, who appeared in three events a year ago, will also return.
