September 24, 2020 | Women's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior women's golfer Sofia Garcia was featured on the Preseason ANNIKA Award Watch List Thursday.
This is the second-consecutive year Garcia has been named to the preseason watch list.
Garcia, a three-time All American, was a consensus top-20 collegiate golfer a year ago as she concluded the shortened 2019-20 season at No. 16 in the Golfstat individual poll and No. 18 in the Golfweek rankings.
Garcia's scoring average of 72 as a junior was a team-best mark, as she wrapped the year with five top-five finishes and a solo title at the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational to begin the fall semester. Her efforts garnered her second selection to the Arnold Palmer Cup international team, as well as an invitation to the Augusta Women's National Amateur Championship.
The Red Raiders are set to begin their 2020-21 campaign at the Schooner Fall Classic on Sept. 27-28 in Moore, Okla.
The ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel is annually given to the top female U.S. collegiate golfer; the winner voted on by players, coaches and members of the golf media. Named for and presented by Annika Sorenstam, the award was created in partnership with the Hakins Commission to acknowledge the top female golfer at the end of the season, to match the Haskins Award presented by Stifel which acknowledges the top male Division I Collegiate golfer.
