Davis, Hiatt Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

All-American forward, defender among 54 added to preseason watch list for college soccer’s highest award.
KANSAS CITY – Texas Tech's Kirsten Davis and Cassie Hiatt were added Thursday to the MAC Hermann Trophy's preseason watch list heading into the spring season. Davis and Hiatt are no strangers to recognition from the United Soccer Coaches, which oversees the MAC Hermann Trophy – both were named All-Americans by the organization after the 2019 season.
"It's truly an honor to make the list and I am very appreciative," said Davis, who was a semifinalist for the award in 2019. "However, I am focused on our overall team goals and making sure this is a great year for our program. We have some unfinished business to take care of."
Hiatt shared a similar sentiment.
"There are some amazing names on this list," she said. "I'm looking forward to getting back to business and finally seeing some NCAA soccer back in action."
Davis' nod to the watch list comes after finishing the 2019 campaign on the semi-finals list for the award. Thursday's honor adds to a long list of awards Davis has amassed at Tech, which truly began growing last season. After knocking in 16 goals and tallying seven assists, Davis was voted the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, which of course came with First Team All-Big 12 honors. The United Soccer Coaches recognized her as an All-Midwest Region selection before voting her up onto the All-America First Team, marking the first Red Raider forward since Janine Beckie to earn such an award. In a shortened 2020 fall season, Davis knocked in two goals and an assist.
Like Davis, Hiatt's recognition by the award committee came on the heels of a quality 2020 campaign, but much more so after a stronger, regular-length 2019. The six-foot Parker, Colo., native made the move from outside back to center back during her sophomore season and excelled, anchoring a Red Raider defense that again posted the lowest goals against in the Big 12. Hiatt was a First Team All-Midwest selection before being voted a Third Team All-American. She is the second defender in school history to earn the title behind former Red Raider Jaelene Daniels (neé Hinkle).
