Gala Dumez notched her second top-five finish of the season Monday at the Jim West Challenge
LUBBOCK, Texas – All five members of Texas Tech's lineup signed for an even-par or better round Monday as the No. 22 Red Raiders closed their fall slate with a fifth-place finish at the Jim West Challenge hosted at the Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos.
Â
The Red Raiders combined for a 7-under 281 final round to close their stay at 13-under for the event, two strokes back of Florida State in fourth place and three from Miami in third. Oklahoma State ran away with the team title at 39-under followed by TCU seven strokes back of the Cowgirls.
Â
Gala Dumez recorded the low round of the day for the Red Raiders en route to her second top-five finish of the season after a 4-under 68 final card. Dumez, who finished 9-under for the tournament, matched her highest finish of the season, tying for fourth overall, her same result from only a few weeks ago at the Blessings Collegiate.
Â
Dumez drained five birdies on the day, including three over her final six holes, to move up the leaderboard late in the round. Tech had 19 birdies as a team during the final round, giving the Red Raiders 50 for the tournament, the bulk of which that came at the par-5 locations or the par-4 18th. Tech ranked tied for second only behind Oklahoma State among the 15-team field by combining to shoot 23-under at the par-5 holes.
Â
Outside of Dumez, Tech also received a 2-under final round from Chiara Horder, continuing her strong play early in her collegiate career. Horder finished in a tie for 21st place at 3-under for the week, one stroke better than Amy Taylor, who was 1-under, herself, over the final 18 holes.
Â
Anna Dong and Chelsea Romas both chipped in even-par final rounds to close the tournament. Dong was tied for 37th on the individual leaderboard at 3-over for the tournament, while Romas was one stroke back in a tie for 41st overall.
Â
The Jim West Challenge closed Tech's fall slate as the Red Raiders will resume their 2021-22 schedule Feb. 13-14 at the Columbia Classic held in Melbourne, Florida. The Red Raiders will host a match play event April 3-4 as part of their spring slate, bringing in the likes of Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Tulsa to The Rawls Course.
