Former Standout Parker Wynn Joins Staff
October 07, 2021 | Men's Tennis
LUBBOCK, Texas – A staple of the number one singles and doubles slot will continue to be a part of the Red Raider men's tennis program as head coach Daniel Whitehead announced that Parker Wynn will join his staff as a volunteer coach after earning his degree in Business in May of 2021.
"The opportunity to continue to have Parker around our program is extremely beneficial for our team," Whitehead said. "He has had a tremendous amount of success at the highest level and his tennis IQ unmatched. He will be a true asset to our younger players as they adjust to competition at this level. It is so valuable for our team to see former student-athletes like Parker around our program and contributing to their development."
After transferring to Tech in 2018, Wynn made an immediate impact in his first season as a Red Raider tallying 16 singles wins and 15 doubles wins. Wynn was named to the All-Big 12 second team for singles and earned All-Big-12 first team honors in doubles. In the shortened 2020 season, parker secured five victories over ranked opponents and reached as high as 48 in the ITA national rankings. Parker also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. In his final year as co-team captain, Wynn was ranked as high as 37 in the in the ITA national rankings.
"Lubbock and the Texas Tech tennis program are my home away from home." Stated Wynn. "When Danny told me there was a chance to become the volunteer coach, my decision was instantly made. There is a fantastic group of guys in that locker with whom I still share close relationships. To retain a role in that environment is very exciting. I believe the future of this program is bright. When I stepped foot on campus as a player, my main goal was to leave the program in a better place than when I found it, but we still have more work to do."
Wynn officially joined the program in September of 2021, while currently serving as a lead Ambassador for the Promotions & Fan Engagement department in athletics. He will begin his pursuit of a Master's in Sport Management at Tech in January 2022.
