Lady Raiders welcome Weber State Tuesday night

Taylah Thomas chipped in 15 points and snagged 10 boards in the season opener
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lady Raider basketball team (1-0) will host Weber State Tuesday night at 7 p.m. inside the United Supermarkets Arena.

Last Thursday night, the Lady Raiders defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 67-45, to open the 2021-22 campaign. In that game,Ella Tofaeono dropped a game-high 18 points in just 19 minutes off the bench while also securing nine boards. Meanwhile, another newcomer in Taylah Thomas chipped in 15 points and snagged 10 rebounds, six of them coming on the offensive glass. Thomas played a game-high 33 minutes. With the victory Thursday night, head coach Krista Gerlich captured her 300th career win as a head coach.

The Lady Raiders return three players from last year's squad, freshman center Khadija Faye, junior forward Bryn Gerlich and senior guard Wooden Award watch list honoree Vivian Gray. All said, coach Gerlich ushers in nine new players to her roster, three of those being freshmen. Transfers in the offseason include, Bre'Amber Scott, Tofaeono, Lexy Hightower, Thomas and Tatum Veitenheimer as well as freshman Rhyle McKinney.

The Weber State Wildcats come to West Texas with a 1-1 record, most recently falling on the road to Portland, 67-46. In both games thus far, Jadyn Matthews has scored in doubles figures, averaging 9.0 PPG. She also leads the group attacking the glass, averaging 9.0 boards.
