The win came as a birthday present for head coach Krista Gerlich.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Freshman Rhyle McKinney finished with a career-high 21 points as the Lady Raiders shot 44.4 percent from beyond the arc en route to a 62-44 victory over Weber State Tuesday night at United Supermarkets Arena.

The Lady Raiders (2-0) opened the game on a 9-0 run and widened the first period lead with a 10-0 run to make it 19-5. Tech held Weber State (1-2) in check in the first half as the Wildcats managed just 26.9 percent from the field. The Lady Raiders shot 46.2 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from 3-point range to take a 33-20 lead into the half.

McKinney and Bryn Gerlich led the team with nine points each in the half while Lexy Hightower added eight of her own with two 3-pointers and a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor.

Coming out of the half the Wildcats clawed their way back within five points, holding the Lady Raiders scoreless for 2:44 on a 7-0 run. Tech began heating up from beyond the arc in the second half, taking a 54-38 lead with 7:58 remaining off three triples, two from McKinney and one from Taylah Thomas. The Lady Raiders held the Wildcats to just six points in the final seven minutes of the game.

McKinney shot 45.5 percent from the field including 60 percent from three. Hightower also shot 60 percent from long-range, finishing with 13 points on 62.5 percent shooting while grabbing seven boards for a +22-scoring margin in 35 minutes of play.

The Lady Raiders continue the home stand with a matchup against Lamar at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 at United Supermarkets Arena. The Cardinals are 1-2 on the season, coming off a 71-37 loss to Ole Miss in Oxford.
