Davis is now a two-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year
IRVING, Texas – Kirsten Davis was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career while Macy Blackburn and Ashleigh Williams landed on the All-Freshman Team, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Â
Â
Davis last won the award in 2019 and becomes the second Texas Tech forward in program history to be named the Offensive Player of the Year twice – Janine Beckie (2014-15). So far this season, Davis leads Tech in goals (14), points (34), shots (74), and shots on goal (39). The St. Louis, Mo., native has started all 18 games she's played in this season, accumulating nearly 1,500 minutes on the pitch. The superlative places Davis on the All-Big 12 First Team for a third-straight year.Â
Â
"Kirsten has been an absolute warrior for our program over the course of her career," said head coach Tom Stone. "She has been the consummate player, leader, teammate, and student. Probably her most impressive traits have been her drive to improve her game, while becoming an All-American, a NWSL draft pick, and now a two-time Offensive Player of the Year. She's maintained her wonderful sense of humility and class throughout her time at Texas Tech. Kirsten embodies all that a university could hope for in a student-athlete. We celebrate her successes and are thankful that she chose to be a Red Raider years ago."
Â
Out of the 19 games thus far, Blackburn has started 18 of them and leads the clubs in assists with nine. The defender's nine assists are the eighth-highest total in the country.Â
Â
"Macy's transition to the college game was immediate and has already developed into one of the best flank players in the Big 12 and the country," said Stone. "All young players have a lot to learn but Macy has a terrific appetite for growth and development, so we are excited that she has been recognized by the Big 12 so early in her career, and look forward to her next three years in the Red and Black."
Â
Meanwhile, Williams has been a constant threat up top for the Red Raiders. She's appeared in all 19 games making seven starts, including the last six. The Allen, Texas native is second on the team in goals (eight) and has one assist. Williams first four goals donning the Red and Black were all game-winners.Â
Â
"We are thrilled for Ashleigh to have been recognized by our Big 12 colleagues on the All-Freshman Team," said Stone. "She came in fit and was ready to go from day one. Ashleigh is a natural in front of goal and has given our team a huge lift off the bench and as a starter. That's a lot of goals for a freshman and we feel she's only scratched the surface of what she can do at the college level."
Â
Texas Tech continues its run in the Big 12 Tournament Thursday at 4:30 p.m. taking on top-seeded TCU in the semifinals. Both teams met last Thursday night which saw the Horned Frogs score in the 85th minute for the 1-0 win in Lubbock. Â
