RECAP: The Red Raiders fall to No. 2 Texas in regular season finale

The loss was the only sweep of the Red Raiders in Big 12 play this season.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 2 Texas in the regular season finale on Saturday at United Supermarkets Arena. 
The Red Raiders (17-12, 7-9) were swept by the Longhorns (24-1, 14-1) who clinched their fifth consecutive Big 12 title with the win. Tech, who tied their best conference record in program history, finished sixth in the league standings and now awaits the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday to hear its postseason fate.
Kenna Sauer led Tech with seven kills, while KJ Adams had 11 digs and Alex Kirby contributed 24 assists. Reagan Cooper added six kills and two blocks. Caitlin Dugan, Karrington Jones and Brooke Kanas each had five kills for the Red Raiders. Tech was limited to a .111 attacking percentage in the match while the Longhorns hit .396 with only seven errors.
Melanie Parra, Skylar Fields and Logan Eggleston led the Longhorns with nine kills each, while Jhenna Gabriel had 26 assists.
Texas opened the match with a 25-15 win in the first set by hitting .423 and limiting the Red Raiders to a .032 clip. Tech trailed 17-9 before running off five straight points capped by a block assist from Kanas and Cooper to make it 17-14. Texas responded though with six straight points and finished off the set with an Eggleston kill.
The Longhorns took a 2-0 advantage with a 25-18 win in the second set. The Red Raiders cut Texas' early lead to 9-7 on a Kirby kill and made it 14-12 with an Adams ace. Cooper tallied a kill that brought the Red Raiders within three, 20-17. However, Texas closed out the set by winning five of the next six points, capping the set with a service ace from Sydney Petersen.
Tech looked to force a fourth set, keeping things close early in the third within one at 16-15. Texas went on a 3-0 run with a pair of kills and an error to take a 20-16 advantage before eventually closing out the match with another Peterson service ace, the fifth of the evening for the Longhorns.
The Red Raiders were swept for only the third time this season and the first in Big 12 play.
