Arevalo Captures ITA Big 12 Individual Championships Title

WACO, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team made a strong statement to the rest of the conference with a great showing at the ITA Big 12 Individual Championships, culminating with a singles title for Isaac Arevalo.
Arevalo's path to the title was not an easy one. Enroute to the championship match Isaac battled from behind to defeat Baylor's Matias Soto, currently ranked seventh in the nation, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinal round. He then defeated Baylor's Jacob Brum (6-2, 6-2) to advance to the finals to face Justin Schlageter of Oklahoma. Mounting an impressive ground stroke attack, Isaac methodically dispatched of the Sooner to take the title 6-3, 6-3.
The Red Raiders saw a series of success in tournament with Reed Collier and Olle Wallin both advancing to the quarterfinals of singles play, and Takeyasu Sekiguchi making his way to the consolation bracket championship.
Arevalo also left his mark on in doubles play, teaming up with Reed Collier to advance to the finals. After an impressive win over Oklahoma's Schlageter/Mandlik, they eventually lost in a tiebreak to the Sooner team of Martinez/Hotard. Dimitrios Azoidis and Olle Wallin displayed impressive court chemistry playing their way to the semifinals before losing to the eventual champions.
