Lady Raider Tennis Sweeps Houston, 4-0

HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team closed out its weekend with a 4-0 sweep at Houston on Sunday morning.

The Lady Raiders got on the board first, picking up wins on doubles courts two and three to take the doubles point and lead, 1-0, heading into singles play. Nell Miller and Margarita Skriabina were the first Lady Raiders to pick up a win, defeating Azul Pedemonti and Gabriela Giraldo, 6-2, to move to 3-0 on the year.

Olivia Peet and Metka Komac clinched the doubles point for Tech, defeating Sophie Gerits and Phonexay Chitdara, 7-5, on court three. The win moved the duo to 1-1 together this season.

The Lady Raiders quickly added to their lead in singles play, picking up straight-set wins by Skriabina and Kaitlin Staines to stretch their lead to 3-0 and put themselves a point away from the win.

Skriabina defeated Laura Slisane, 6-4, 6-0, on court four for the first singles win of the day. The win pushed the freshman to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in dual matches.

Staines snagged her second singles win of the season, defeating Geritz, 6-2, 7-5, on court two to move her overall record this season to 6-5.

It was freshman Lisa Mays who clinched the win for the Lady Raiders, pulling out a three-set win over Mimi Kendall Woseley, 6-5, 4-6, 6-0. The victory makes Mays 6-1 overall on the season and 4-0 in dual play.

Tech will open its home schedule next weekend with a doubleheader against Abilene Christian and New Mexico on Sunday, Feb. 14.
