
Lady Raider Tennis Sweep Kansas State for Second Big 12 Win

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team earned its second Big 12 win in as many matches, sweeping Kansas State, 7-0, on Friday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center.

The Lady Raiders (8-3, 2-0 Big 12) made quick work of the Wildcats in doubles, winning two of three doubles matches to clinch the point in less than 30 minutes, while also holding match point on the third court as play was suspended.

Margarita Skriabina and Nell Miller struck first with a 6-1 win over Margot Decker and Ioana Gheorghita to move to 5-2 together this season. Lisa Mays and Kaitlin Staines clinched the point for Texas Tech, shutting out No. 46 Karine-Marion Job and Maria Linares, 6-0, for their second-straight win and fourth win in seven matches this spring.

Texas Tech carried its momentum into singles play, winning all six matches with five wins coming in straight sets.

Freshman Metka Komac stretched the Texas Tech lead to 2-0 as Kansas State's Anna Turco retired due to injury after Komac clinched the first set, 6-3.

Komac's win was quickly followed by victories from Nell Miller, Kaitlin Staines and Margarita Skriabina, who clinched the match for the Lady Raiders and expanded the advantage to 5-0. Miller downed Margot Decker, 6-1, 6-2, to push her record this spring to 6-3. Staines followed up her and Mays' big doubles win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Rosanna Maffei, while Skriabina won her eighth-straight dual match in a 6-3, 6-0 dub over Manami Ukita on court three.

Olivia Peet would add to the barrage of Tech singles wins, handling Lilla Barzo, 6-2, 6-3, on court five to move to 6-2 this spring.

Finally, Lisa Mays completed the sweep with a big comeback three-set win over Karine-Marion Job, 3-6, 7-6, 10-5. Mays is now 9-2 overall this season and 7-1 in dual matches.

The Lady Raiders will return to the McLeod Tennis Center this Sunday for a doubleheader against Kansas (12 p.m.) and Tarleton State (3:30 p.m.)
