Lady Raiders Continue Big 12 Play at Iowa State, West Virginia

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team continues conference play this weekend with the first road tests of the Big 12 schedule, taking on No. 43 Iowa State and West Virginia.
WEEKEND SCHEDULE
Friday – at Iowa State – 3 p.m.
Sunday – at West Virginia – 9 a.m. (CT)
ABOUT THE LADY RAIDERS
Texas Tech comes into this weekend's conference matches on a three-match win streak, with home sweeps over Kansas State, Kansas and SMU last week. The Lady Raiders are ranked 30th in the country and are 3-0 in Big 12 play with sweeps over the Jayhawks and Wildcats, which followed a 6-1 win over TCU last month.
Kaitlin Staines represents Tech in the ITA singles rankings, coming in at No. 100 in the preseason poll. Lisa Mays is 11-2 overall on the year and is coming off her third Big 12 Player of the Week recognition of the season this week. Margarita Skriabina has been hot as well, going 10-0 in dual singles matches this year.
Tech has been victorious in the last three doubles points, led by strong showings from the Lady Raiders at the No. 1 line where Mays and Staines are 6-2 on the year and 1-0 against ranked foes.
EYEING THE OPPONENTS
Iowa State is 8-4 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play heading into this Friday's matchup with the Lady Raiders. Ranked No. 43 in the latest ITA team rankings, the Cyclones have had a tough stretch to open conference play, falling at No. 2 Texas and No. 12 Baylor last weekend, after opening the season at 7-0 overall. Iowa State is 4-0 at home this season and riding a 13-match home win streak that dates back to the 2018-2019 season.
West Virginia is 3-2 overall this season and 0-2 in Big 12 play after losses at No. 2 Texas and No. 12 Baylor last weekend. The Mountaineers got off to a solid start this season, however, recording wins over Cleveland State, Youngstown State and VCU to open the year 3-0. The Lady Raiders will look to hand the Mountaineers their first home loss of the season, as West Virginia's home record currently stands at 2-0.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Lady Raiders will be back on the road next week when they travel to Oklahoma to face Tulsa (March 24), Oklahoma State (March 26) and Oklahoma (March 28).
