Scott Selected to Second Straight Walker Cup

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior Sandy Scott has been named by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club as one of 10 players who will represent Great Britain and Ireland in the 48th Walker Cup Match on May 8-9 at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Florida.
A Nairn, Scotland native, Scott has now earned two straight GB&I selections and is only one of two returners for the team. He earned 2.5 points in the 2019 Walker Cup at Royal Liverpool. GB&I is bidding to win back the trophy after the USA secured a 15½-10½ victory at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England, two years ago, marking the first away win in the match since 2007.
The R&A selects the GB&I team, while the USGA makes selections for the United States.
Scott is a two-time All-American at Texas Tech along with earning Academic All-American honors. He is currently at No. 8 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking after he reached the last 32 of the U.S. Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes in Oregon last year. He earned a spot in the U.S. Open at Winged Foot due to being in the top seven of the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Scott has not played for the Red Raiders this season due to an injury. He is a two-time winner at Tech securing a title at the 2019 El Macero Classic and 2019 Carmel Cup.
The GB&I Team includes: Barclay Brown, Alex Fitzpatrick, Angus Flanagan, Ben Jones, Matty Lamb, Joe Long, John Murphy, Mark Power, Ben Schmidt and Sandy Scott. The two travelling reserves are Jack Dyer and Jake Bolton. Â

The United States team, which will be captained by Nathaniel Crosby, of Jupiter, Fla., includes Tyler Strafaci, 22, of Davie, Fla., who earned his place by winning the 2020 U.S. Amateur Championship. Three players earned places as the top three Americans in the World Amateur Golf Ranking® / WAGR® as of Feb. 10. They are: Ricky Castillo, 20, of Yorba Linda, Calif. (fourth in the WAGR); John Pak, 22, of Scotch Plains, N.J. (seventh in the WAGR); and Davis Thompson, 21, of St. Simons Island, Ga. (second in the WAGR). The team also includes Pierceson Coody, 21, of Plano, Texas; Quade Cummins, 24, of Weatherford, Okla.; Austin Eckroat, 22, of Edmond, Okla.; Stewart Hagestad, 29, of Newport Beach, Calif.; Cole Hammer, 21, of Houston, Texas; and William Mouw, 20, of Chino, Calif. Hagestad, Hammer and Pak are returning players from the 2019 USA Team, which defeated GB&I, 15½-10½, at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, in Hoylake, England.
Each of the two competition days features foursomes (alternate-shot) matches in the morning followed by singles matches in the afternoon. On Saturday, there are eight singles matches, while all 10 players from each side compete in singles on Sunday. One full point is awarded for each victory, while a half-point is earned for matches that are all square after 18 holes. The USA needs 13 points to retain the Cup, while GB&I requires 13.5 points to reclaim it.
