Whaley, Zoch Earn Big 12 Weekly Honors

Zoch earns her second Big 12 weekly award of the season while Whaley picks up the first award of her career.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Following the Red Raiders series win against Kansas, Missy Zoch and Yvonne Whaley have earned Big 12 Pitcher and Co-Player of the Week awards, the league office announced Tuesday.
Zoch earns Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season, earning the first on March 23 after tossing a no-hitter against Tarleton State. Whaley was named Co-Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career, sharing the recognition with Oklahoma's Tiare Jennings.
Whaley came up clutch for Tech in both of the Red Raiders wins tallying three RBI on three hits in the series opener, including the RBI single to tie the game in the seventh inning. She added some insurance for Tech in the top of the eighth inning with a two-RBI single to help secure the first conference win of the season. In Sunday's finale, she tallied two hits including an RBI double that brought in the game-winning run in the eighth inning. Her game winning-hit came with two outs on an 0-2 count and clinched the series win for Tech. She also recorded an RBI single in the fifth that pulled Tech within one run to mount the comeback win. The junior outfielder finished the weekend with five hits and five RBI.
The Houston, Texas native leads the team in doubles (9), is tied for the team lead in hits (42) and ranks second in batting average (.331), RBI (15), runs scored (22) and total bases (54).
Zoch, a senior from Winchester, Texas went 2-0 in the circle against Kansas pitching two complete extra-inning games to help the Red Raiders secure their first conference series win of the season. In the series opener, Zoch tossed a career-high and program record 16 strikeouts in eight innings of work. She closed out the series on Sunday with seven strikeouts in another eight innings of work, totaling 23 strikeouts in 16.0 innings pitched on the weekend.
The right-handed ace leads the team and conference in strikeouts with 105, averaging 7.3 strikeouts per seven innings. She also leads the squad in ERA, wins and opposing batting average.
