The top-ranked Sooners took both games in Saturday’s double header to clinch the series.
NORMAN, Okla. – Texas Tech (18-22, 2-12 Big 12) dropped both games of the double header against No. 1 Oklahoma (36-1, 11-0 Big 12) Saturday afternoon in Norman.
The Sooners took game one in run-rule fashion 15-0 before defeating the Red Raiders 5-0 in game two.
Oklahoma 15, Texas Tech 0 (5 inn.)
The top-ranked Oklahoma offense wasted no time scoring with three runs in the first and six in the second to take a nine-run lead after two innings. Only four of the nine runs scored through the first two innings were earned after a couple of costly errors.
The Sooners dropped another six spot in the third off five hits including a pair of home runs to make it 15-0.
The Red Raiders tallied a couple of hits off Oklahoma ace G Juarez with a bunt single on the first pitch of the game from Yvonne Whaley and a single over the head of the first baseman from Riley Love in the third inning.
Missy Zoch (9-10) started in the circle for Tech giving up nine runs, four earned, on five hits with five walks and one strikeout in 1.2 innings. Morgan Hornback pitched the final 2.1 innings giving up six runs, five earned, on five hits while walking four and striking out one.
Juarez (13-0) got the nod for the Sooners going 3.0 innings giving up just two hits while striking out four. Brooke Vestal and Olivia Rains each pitched an inning allowing no hits and just one base runner between the two of them.
Oklahoma 5, Texas Tech 0
An RBI double to center field from Kenzie Hansen gave Oklahoma a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Sooners looked to add more with the bases loaded and one out but a strikeout from Erin Edmoundson and a fly out ended the inning.
The Sooners threatened in the second, attempting a squeeze bunt with runners on the corners but Edmoundson fielded the bunt and tagged Taylon Snow out at home to save the run.
Tech broke up Shannon Saile's no-hitter in the top of the third with a two-out single from Whaley but were unable to push any runs across.
Edmoundson held the Sooners scoreless for a couple of innings before the nation's best home run hitting team went back-to-back in the fourth for a three-run inning. Janna Johns sent a two-run shot over dead center field for her second home run of the day before Tiare Jennings followed run with a solo shot of her own to make it 4-0.
The Red Raiders best scoring chance came in the top of the sixth when Whaley tallied her second hit of the game and Karli Hamilton drew a two-out walk to put a couple of runners on base. A pop out to left field ended the inning with a zero on the scoreboard for Tech.
The Sooners added one more run in the bottom half of the inning after a hit by pitch put a runner on for Jennings who doubled to right center to score Johns who was originally called out at home but was awarded the run after obstruction was called on Kennedy Crites.
