Texas Tech hosts first home meet in two years while five multis competitors head to Tucson.
LUBBOCK, Texas – For the first time in two years, Texas Tech will host a meet at the Fuller Track & Field. It will mark the first time the Red Raiders have gotten to compete at their home track since 2019. Additionally, Tech will send five multis competitors to Arizona for the annual Jim Click Shootout Multis.
"I am so excited to be able to have our first home outdoor track and field meet in really three years," said head coach Wes Kittley. "We always have great things happen at our home meet. Our kids set PRs and we have great performances. Being at home, there's just a comfort level that's just hard to describe!"
The first home meet of the season comes off a successful weekend in Waco for a handful of Red Raiders, which itself followed a big weekend in Austin to truly kick off the outdoor campaign. In Waco, Gabe Oladipo achieved his first discus PR as a Tech thrower. Chinne Okoronkwo, three-time and defending Big 12 Champion in the pole vault, got her first clearance of her final outdoor season. On the track, Courtney Lindsey made his anticipated outdoor debut for the Red Raiders, PR'ing in the 200m alongside Keion Sutton.
In Austin, Tech saw lifetime bests from Joanna Archer in the 800m and Kayli Johnson in the shot put. Jack Scarborough cleared an outdoor-best in the high jump, while Jequan Hogan nearly triple jumped his way to a PR of his own. Lexye Price hurdled her way to yet another PR in the 400mH, this time dropping into 58-second range for the first time in her career.
All of the above athletes will compete in those events at home this weekend, with the exception of Lindsey and Archer. Lindsey will take the weekend off from competition, while Archer will run her first 1500m of the year.
With an exciting lineup of Red Raiders competing at home, five will be in action in Tucson at the Arizona-hosted Jim Click Shootout Multis. Tech has used this meet in recent years to get its combined events athletes their first multis scores of the outdoor season. All-American Kaylee Hinton and Callie Jones will compete in the heptathlon, while Fynn Zenker, Kale Mauritsen and Cole Whatley will take on the decathlon.
The Masked Rider Open will begin Friday at 1 p.m. with the javelin, which will take place over at the throws area adjacent to the Museum of Texas Tech University. Saturday's action will begin at 8 a.m. with the 10,000m before the rest of the meet gets underway at 3 p.m. Live results will be available here. Admission is free for the entire weekend.
In Tucson, Tech's multis competitors will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday. Live results will be available here.
