ABOUT THE LADY RAIDERS
Looking to add to a 15-8 overall season to this point, the Lady Raiders finished the conference season at 6-3 in Big 12 play to finish third in the league standings—outpacing their preseason projection. It was Tech's best conference finish since 2018, and the team was 7-2 at home and 7-5 on the road.
The Lady Raiders opened the season winning, seven of their first eight matches, including a big, 4-3 win over then-No. 23 Arizona State in Lubbock in February. Texas Tech opened the conference season 3-0 with dominant wins over TCU, Kansas and Kansas State to serve up Big 12 play.
The team won five of seven matches on a tough, extended road trip that spanned from March 19 to April 10. Among the highlights of the stretch was a pair of 4-3 road victories over Oklahoma and Oklahoma State that marked the first sweep of the Oklahoma schools for the program since 2018.
NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
The Lady Raiders are no strangers to the NCAA Tournament, as the team is looking to make noise in its ninth-straight selection to the event. Tech has made deep runs into the tournament in recent years as well, recording a pair of consecutive Elite Eight appearances in 2017 and 2018 while making three-straight Sweet 16's from 2016-18. This weekend, the Lady Raiders will look to advance in the tournament for the first time since 2018 (the 2020 NCAA Tournament was canceled due to COVID-19). In the Big 12 era, Texas Tech is 4-3 in first round matches, while winning three of the last four.
ABOUT THE TOREROS
The San Diego Toreros come into this weekend's first and second rounds at 15-4 overall and ranked No. 41 nationally. The Toreros are making the 12th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history coming off a 7-1 conference season in which their only loss was to No. 7 Pepperdine last month. Solymar Colling represents the Toreros in the ITA singles rankings, coming in at No. 65.
The Lady Raiders and Toreros have met three times in the two programs' histories with Texas Tech leading the all-time series, 2-1. The last meeting between the two teams came in 2013, where the Lady Raiders came up with the 5-2 win in San Diego. This weekend's match will be the first time the teams have met in the NCAA Tournament.
