Texas Tech assistant coach Jon Wong will serve as the USA Volleyball U20 National Team Coordinator heading into the 2021 FIVB U20 World Championships this July.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Texas Tech volleyball assistant coach Jon Wong has been named the technical coordinator for the 2021 USA Volleyball Women's Indoor U20 National Team, announced by the organization on Wednesday, June 9.
"It is always an honor to represent the USA in any international tournament and this year's world championship tournament is no different," said Wong. "I am looking forward to helping these players compete for a world championship and to work with these great coaches. I am thankful to be a part of this staff and to work with USA Volleyball."
Wong is no stranger to the USA Volleyball organization; he spent the 2020 and 2018 seasons in the same role and previously worked alongside the Junior National Team at the 2019 FIVB U20 World Championships as well as the USA Women's National Team at the 2019 FIVB Women's World Cup and the 2019 Pan American Games. He started working with the organization as a part of the USA Collegiate National Team program for the 2016 China Tour and the 2017 domestic training team in Minneapolis.
"We're excited for Jon to continue his work with USA Volleyball as a technical coordinator this year," said head coach Tony Graystone. "We see firsthand everyday how good he is with analytics and know how much of an impact he makes on game planning and in-match adjustments. I'm proud Jon will be representing the Red Raiders on the bench with the U20 National Team this summer."
As a technical coordinator Wong is responsible for scouting opponents, breaking down data and video analysis, game planning and assisting with on court training. The team will compete in the 2021 FIVB Women's U20 World Championship this July in Rotterdam, Netherlands and Kortrijk, Belgium. Training camp for the team runs from June 28-July 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Junior National Team will open the tournament in Pool C alongside Turkey, Poland and Thailand.
