
Jung Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech freshman Jace Jung has been named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I baseball first team which was announced on Thursday and selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Jung, who was named the Big 12 Player of the Year and maintained a 3.71 GPA as a Sport Management major, recorded one of the most decorated seasons in school history where he earned consensus All-American. He was also selected as the NCBWA National Freshman Hitter of the Year, NCBWA District 7 Co-Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Dick Howser Trophy. Additionally, he was a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team and Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, an NCBWA District 7 First Team pick and earned ABCA All-Region.
An infielder from San Antonio, Jung led the Red Raiders with 21 home runs and 67 RBI in a season where he started all 56 games. He also led the team with 49 walks, added 10 doubles and a triple to finish with a .337 batting average. Equally as valuable at in the field, primarily at second base, Jung had a .967 fielding percentage and was part of 30 double plays.
Jung is joined on the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team by Brendan Beck (Stanford), Brett Kerry (South Carolina), Andy Thomas (Baylor), Alex Kachler (North Florida), Dillan Shrum (Nevada), Rankin Woley (Auburn), Aaron Anderson (Liberty), Christian De Castillo (Miami), Mason McWhorter (Georgia Southern), Aaron Zavala (Oregon) and Steele Netterville (Louisiana Tech). From the Big 12, Zach Kokoska (Kansas State) earned second-team honors.
Five of the 33 members of the Academic All-America® Division I baseball team boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 12 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.75.
Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District advanced to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. To be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America distinction, nominees must have a 3.30 GPA or higher to go along with legitimate on-field contributions.
