Red Raiders Travel to New Mexico State for Exhibition Match
August 20, 2021 | Women's Volleyball
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball will hit the court for the first time this season in an exhibition match against New Mexico State Saturday afternoon in Las Cruces.
"I'm really looking forward to the trip to Las Cruces and getting started this weekend," said head coach Tony Graystone. "We've had a very successful fall camp and the team is definitely ready to play. We're going to get a good look at some of our lineups and it will be nice to see what works and finish our prep for the official start of the season."
Tech returns 14 players from a season ago with five starters still on the roster, including All-Big 12 Second Team selections Caitlin Dugan and Samantha Sanders. The Red Raiders have added five transfers: KJ Adams, Kenna Sauer, Camryn Specia, Brielle Sterns and Alexandra Torres to the roster along with freshmen Maddie Correa and Madison Gilliland.
Two of the transfers, Adams and Sterns are no stranger to New Mexico State. Adams is the reigning Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Libero of the Year from Grand Canyon, while Sterns spent her first two seasons in Las Cruces with the Aggies.
The Red Raiders have not faced the Aggies since 2006 and have not traveled to Las Cruces since the 2003 season. Tech finished the 2020 season with a 9-13 record winning four of its last five matches of the season. New Mexico State went 16-2 in a conference-only schedule, playing just two home matches due to state-wide COVID-19 restrictions.
The match is set for 1:00 p.m. CST (12:00 p.m. MT) at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces.
