The Red Raiders defeated the Wildcats in three sets: 25-17, 25-15, 25-13 Tuesday night in Abilene
ABILENE, Texas – The Red Raiders were dominant in their win over Abilene Christian, sweeping the Wildcats 25-17, 25-15, 25-13 Tuesday night in Abilene.
The Red Raiders hit .344 while holding ACU to a .069 hitting clip. Tech's 11 blocks marked the second straight match with double-digit blocks and the third of the season so far.
Kenna Sauer registered 10 kills hitting .318 to lead all scorers. Caitlin Dugan hit .400 with eight kills, half of which came in the first set. Reagan Cooper tied her career-high with five blocks and added five kills to the stat sheet. Nine different players tallied at least one kill and nine different players recorded at least one block for the Red Raiders.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Red Raiders set the tone early leading from the first point and never surrendering the lead in the opening frame. ACU remained within a few points until Tech jumped out on a 7-2 run for an eight-point lead at 23-15. A kill from Mackenzie Morgan gave the Red Raiders set point and Dugan secured Tech the opening set win with her fourth kill of the night.
A strong start to the second set forced ACU to take an early timeout down 7-2. The Red Raiders continued to apply pressure leading by 11 at 17-6 after an ace from KJ Adams. The Wildcats brought the match back within six after a rally of their own, but Tech used a 5-0 run to push the lead back to 11 at 23-12. The Red Raiders squashed a late rally attempt by the Wildcats to take the second set 25-15.
Abilene Christian's first lead of the night came at the start of the third set when a Tech attack error put the Wildcats up 3-2. The lead would not last as Tech scored the next two points and did not fall behind the rest of the match. The Wildcats took a timeout as the Red Raiders increased the lead to 10 on a kill from Maddie O'Brien, 20-10. Tech's largest lead of the match came on an ACU attack error that set up match point at 24-12. The Wildcats fought off one match point, but another attack error gave the Red Raiders the sweep.

Texas Tech hosts Texas State, Rhode Island and No. 6 Ohio State in the Red Raider Classic this weekend Sept. 3-4. The Red Raiders home opener against Texas State is slated for 6 p.m. Friday. Tech will then face Rhode Island at 1 p.m. Saturday before taking on the sixth-ranked Buckeyes at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
