Track & Field lands two top five indoor rankings

Last season the women’s side reached as high as No. 5
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field program landed both teams in the top 5 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) indoor poll Monday afternoon.
The men's program was slotted in at No. 3, while the women's team broke inside the top 5 for the first time in school history at No. 4. It's the first time in Tech track and field history both programs are ranked simultaneously inside the top 5. The only two other schools that have its men and women teams ranked inside the top 5 are Texas and Kentucky.
"What a great honor for both our men and women teams," said head coach Wes Kittley. "It's a great amount of respect for both programs and hopefully we can continue to be there at the end."
The USTFCCCA did not have its normal preseason rankings, so the first installment of the poll is based on current 2022 marks. The Red have hosted two consecutive home meets to start the indoor season and will be at home once again this weekend hosting the two-day Texas Tech Open & Multis meet (Jan. 28-29).
