On senior night, Teeter recorded the game winner and an assist
LUBBOCK, Texas – On her senior night, Charlotte Teeter nailed the game-winning goal, to power Texas Tech to a 2-0 victory over Baylor Thursday night at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
The go-ahead strike for Texas Tech (9-3-5) came in the 77th minute when Kylie Bahr found Giselle Kozarski. After taking a touch, Kozarski found a cutting Teeter, who rocketed a perfect shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net from 20 yards out.
"We weren't particularly good in the first half, but we rotated our outside backs up, and once Elise and Kylie started running down the flank, we knew we would start getting some chances," head coach Tom Stone said. "We are excited that Charlotte Teeter got the game winner on Senior Night. It was a classic Charlotte goal, and it brought the house down tonight. It was a great crowd."
Despite the one-goal lead, the Red Raider offense was not done for the night, as with less than 10 seconds to go, Kozarski took a long-range shot off a Teeter throw in to put away her second goal of the season. The strike secured a 2-0 victory for Tech.
Prior to Teeter's late heroics, the best chance to score for the Red Raiders came in the 35th minute when Bahr ripped a shot that hit the crossbar and fell wide.
Baylor's best look of the night came right after the break in the 46th minute when Elizabeth Kooiman fired off the Bears lone shot on goal of the night. Kooiman's shot was swallowed up by keeper Madison White who recorded her eighth clean sheet of the season.
With the win, Tech extends its win streak to five straight matches and now has recorded a five-match winning streak in consecutive seasons.
For the second straight season, the Red Raiders had a senior record the game winner on senior night. A year ago, Kirsten Davis knocked in the deciding goal against Kansas in her final match at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
By virtue of tonight's victory, Tech moved into a tie for first place after Oklahoma downed No. 10 TCU, and Iowa State earned a draw against Texas.
The Longhorns close out a three-match road swing on Sunday at Oklahoma State while the Horned Frogs will make the short trip to Waco for a road date with Baylor. The Red Raiders are off on Sunday and have just one match remaining in the regular season.
Next Up
Texas Tech will take Sunday off and return to action next Thursday against No. 10 TCU. Kickoff from Fort Worth is set for 7 p.m.
