
Adams serves five aces in sweep of Kansas

LUBBOCK, Texas – Behind five aces from KJ Adams, the Texas Tech Red Raiders closed out their season with a sweep of the Kansas Jayhawks, 25-15, 25-16, 25-23, on Friday afternoon at the United Supermarkets Arena for Senior Day.
The Red Raiders (16-13, 5-11 Big 12) ended a six-match losing streak to the Kansas Jayhawks after recording their third sweep of a conference opponent this season. Texas Tech had previously not defeated the Jayhawks since October 16, 2019.
In the match, Adams was on fire at the service line, posting a season-best five aces and adding 12 digs, the only Red Raider to post double-digit digs in the match. Kenna Sauer collected her team-best 27th double-digit kill performance as she totaled 11 slams, while totaling three blocks and six digs.
Brooke Kanas had herself a day, too, as she picked up 10 kills on a .333 hitting clip. She also tallied four blocks, pushing her career total to 330 which ranks 10th in school history. Karrington Jones posted four kills and a team-best five blocks on the day, while Reagan Cooper added six kills and four blocks.
Reese Rhodes eclipsed the 1,000-assist mark for the season when she tallied 29 in the match. She also recorded five kills on eight attacks (.625) and posted four blocks. Defensively, Paige Mooney added nine digs while Maddie Correa posted eight more.
Texas Tech tallied 38 kills, 35 assists, 10 aces, 46 digs and 10.0 blocks against Kansas. The team's 10 aces are also a season-best total for the Red Raiders.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One
The Red Raiders started out hot in the first set, taking a 4-1 lead on kills from Jones and Sauer and a block from Jones and Brynn Williams. Texas Tech continued to dominate as they took a 9-4 advantage when Rhodes put down a kill and Adams picked up an ace. Kansas came back to cut into the lead at 11-9, but Tech went on a 5-0 run to increase the lead at 17-10. The Red Raiders would go on to win eight of the last 10 points, claiming the first set on an ace from Kanas.
Set Two
Texas Tech went on a 2-0 run to begin the set on a kill from Jones and when Adams tallied her third ace of the match. Kansas came back and took an 8-6 lead, but the Red Raiders won six-straight points, highlighted by kills from Jones and Cooper, two aces from Rhodes and a block by Cooper and Jones, for a 12-8 advantage. Tech went on to win nine of the next 12 points thanks to kills from Sauer, Rhodes and Cooper and a block from Sauer and Kanas to take a 22-12 lead. Williams would slam down her first kill of the match to close out the set, 25-16, in favor of the Red Raiders.
Set Three
It was all Red Raiders again at the start of the set when they went up 5-3 on an ace from Adams and blocks from Kanas and Cooper. All even at 9-9, Tech would go on a 4-0 run when Cooper and Jones got kills and Adams served her fifth ace of the match to take a 12-9 lead. Kansas would cut into the Red Raider lead until things were tied at 20-20, then the Jayhawks managed to go up 23-22. The Red Raiders didn't back down, using a Kansas error, a Sauer kill and an ace from Correa to sweep the Jayhawks, 25-23.
