Tech will be looking for the season sweep over the Longhorns
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders return home to United Supermarkets Arena Wednesday night when the No. 16 University of Texas Longhorns visit Lubbock for a 7 p.m. tip.
Wednesday's matchup marks the fourth straight contest that Texas Tech will face a ranked foe. The streak began two weeks ago (Jan. 29) against Iowa State.
Looking for the first season sweep over UT since the 2012-13 season, the Lady Raiders defeated the Longhorns back on Jan. 5 when they were ranked ninth overall.
In that contest, senior Vivian Gray scored a game-high 23 while guard Bre'Amber Scott scored 21, the most she has scored in a Lady Raider uniform. Tech led that contest for 38 minutes and 20 seconds, as UT enjoyed its only lead at 2-0.
The victory was the first over a Top-10 team since Tech defeated Brittney Griner and No. 1 Baylor back in 2011, and was the programs' first victory in Austin since 2013.

Wednesday is Texas Tech's National Girls and Women's in Sports Day celebration. Fans aged 4-12 can sign up for a pre-game clinic (SIGNUP) from 5:30-6:45 inside the practice gym of United Supermarkets Arena. All participants of the clinic will receive one (1) free general admission ticket and the opportunity to purchase additional $5 general admission tickets. All fans are also encouraged to wear black, as the Lady Raiders will be wearing black uniforms.
LAST TIME OUT:
Despite 36 points from senior All-American Vivian Gray, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to projected Big 12 Player of the Year Ayoka Lee and the No. 25 Kansas State Wildcats, 82-75 Saturday night at Brantage Coliseum. For the second time in 14 days, Gray was electric, scoring a season-high 36 points on 14-of-19 shooting. The three-time All-America selection was also 1-of-2 from 3-point range and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line in her 38 minutes of action.
Gray really caught fire for Texas Tech (9-12, 2-8 Big 12) in the third quarter, as the combo-guard scored 28 of her 36 points after the break. Making her last four shots of the third, Gray scored an identical 14 points in both the third and fourth periods. The 36 points were two shy of her career-high 38-point performance she had last Feb. 20 against Kansas. Gray had 32 points two weeks ago (Jan. 22) at Kansas.
In spite of picking up three fouls in the first period and her fourth foul just 31 seconds into the third period, guard Bryn Gerlich contributed four points and a game-high eight assists in her 24 minutes of action. The eight assists tied the guard's career-best output. True freshman Chantae Embry also recorded a career-high, as the Norman native scored a career-best 11 points, shooting 3-of-4 from the field and 2-of-3 from distance.
SCOUTING UT:
Texas enters Wednesday's matchup at 15-6 overall and 5-5 in the Big 12. Texas has lost three straight overall. The three-game losing streak began with a 65-63 setback at Oklahoma last Saturday (Jan. 29). The streak continued on Friday with a 12-point loss at Baylor. UT fell to the Bears 63-55 on Sunday. The longhorns are currently in sixth place in the Big 12 standings. On Sunday, the Horns led 26-18 at the break, before allowing Baylor to erupt for 27 points in the third period. Taylor led UT in scoring. Allen-Taylor scored 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while forward Aliyah Matharu had 10 points in 25 minutes. Matharu is averaging a team-best 14.8 points this season. In the first matchup against Tech, Matharu scored 12 points on 5-of-17 shooting. True freshman Rori Harmon in the third Longhorn player to be averaging in double-figures. Harmon is averaging 10.1 points and 4.8 rebounds. Harmon scored 10 points against the Lady Raiders in the first matchup.
