Usoro set for World Athletics Indoor Championships

Usoro is Nigeria’s current leader in the long jump and 24th in the world
LUBBOCK, Texas – Senior Ruth Usoro will represent her country of Nigeria in this weekend's World Athletics Indoor Championships taking place in Belgrade, Serbia March 18-20.
A total of 680 athletes from 137 teams are entered to compete in Belgrade, with the women's pentathlon 60m hurdles kicking things off on Friday morning and the men's 4x400m final bringing the competition to a close on Sunday.
"I'm so proud Ruth has this opportunity," said Head Director of Track & Field and Cross County Wes Kittley." "Representing her country in the biggest indoor meet in the world is a tremendous honor."
Usoro is registered to compete in the long jump for Nigeria which takes place on day two (Mar. 19) at 5:30 p.m. local time in Belgrade, which will be 12:30 p.m. CT.
At the Big 12 Indoor Championships last month, Usoro registered her season-best mark of 6.59m (21-7.5) in the long jump to walk away as the winner. Her all-time personal best is a mark of 6.82m (22-4.5), which she set back in 2021 when Texas Tech hosted the Big 12 Indoor Championships. At the NCAA Indoor Championships last weekend, Usoro placed fifth in the long jump at 6.52m (21-4.75) en route to being named a First Team All-American (top 8).
