LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis program rode a fast start to a thrilling 4-2 victory over No. 28 Iowa State Friday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Complex.
Needing just one point to record its third victory in the last four matches, No. 34 Texas Tech (10-7, 2-3 Big 12) turned to senior captain Olivia

Tech got off to a roaring start in its first home match since Feb. 17, winning the doubles point and the first two singles matches that were finished.

After Iowa State (11-3, 0-3 Big 12) recorded a 6-4 victory on court five to extend doubles play, Margarita Skriabina and freshman Cristina

Tiglea rode the momentum from her doubles win to a clutch one and three victory on court six. The win by the freshman gave Tech an early 2-0 lead.
Junior Metka Komac powered by an opening set 6-0 victory, recorded a straight-set win that brought the Lady Raiders to within one point of victory.
Iowa State got on the board on court five, when Chie Kezuka recorded a two and four victory on court five.
ISU's nationally-ranked (No. 68) No. 1 player, Thasaporn Naklo used the momentum from a wild opening set that featured 12 breaks of serve, to record a straight set victory on court one. After leading 6-1, Skriabina saw Naklo rattled off seven straight points to take the breaker 8-6. Skriabina fell 6-3 in the second set.
No. 85 Sayfetdinova got off to a strong start winning the opening set 6-4. In the critical second set, Sayfetdinova fell 7-5, sending the match to a decisive third set. In the decisive third set, the Russian got off to a roaring 5-2 start, but Iowa State's Miska Kadleckova won back-to-back games to draw to within 5-4. The match ended with Sayfetdinova up 5-4 and down 0-30 in her service game.
Needing just one point to clinch, Peet raced out to an early 6-2 opening set victory. After the Cyclones answered with a 7-5 victory in set number two and took an early 1-3 lead in the decisive set, Peet battled all the way back to pull even at four.
In the ninth game of the set, Peet held serve to take her first lead (5-4) of the set. The clutch hold of serve brought the senior to within one game of clinching both her match and a victory for Tech. Peet dug deep and won a deciding point to close out a 6-4 third-set victory and her team's 10th victory of the season.
HEAD COACH TODD PETTY:
"We were playing an amazing team in Iowa State. Obviously, Boomer and Kenna have done a great job with their program. Even though were we up 3-0, I felt like the momentum had begun to shift because their a great team and competitive on every court. To have a senior captain step up in that moment like Olivia did was special. She could have folded but she been in these moments and found a way to get it done. And I thought Avelina was playing a great third set and found a way to bounce back which as a freshman is huge. The experience she gained today will be invaluable as she continues her career. I couldn't be happier for this group. We have a special group of young ladies."
On where his team is at midway through Big 12 play:
"We've had our trials this season, but those experiences allowed us to win a match like tonight. What we've gone through this season in matches like Furman and UC Santa Barbara, and not playing our best tennis at Baylor, I think taught us important lessons. We're starting to play some of our best tennis right now which is what we're looking to do."
