
Tech finally returns home for six-match homestand

Women’s tennis hosts four matches this weekend beginning Friday at 5 p.m.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's tennis returns home for the first time in over a month this weekend, hosting four matches at the McLeod Tennis Center beginning Friday.
Texas Tech (9-7) begins the busy weekend with a 5 p.m. match on Friday against Iowa State. The weekend continues on Saturday when Tech welcomes Denver for a Noon match, before the weekend closes on Sunday with a pair of matches against West Virginia (Noon) and UTRGV (5 p.m).
The Lady Raiders last played a home match on Feb. 19, a 4-0 sweep over Ole Miss. Tech is a perfect 4-0 this season at home.

Despite winning the doubles point and a straight-set victory from Kailey Evans, the 41st-ranked Texas Tech women's tennis program fell 4-2 to No. 34 Kansas Sunday afternoon at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
Tech (9-7, 1-3 Big 12) got off to a fast start, winning two of the three doubles matches. Cristina Tiglea and Margarita Skriabina earned a clutch 6-4 victory on court two, before Avelina Sayfetdinova and Kailey Evans sealed the point with a 7-5 victory on court one.
In singles action, Evans was again clutch for Tech, winning a second-set tiebreaker to seal a 6-4, 7-6 victory on court five. After dropping the opening set 4-6, Skriabina rebounded to win the second set 6-2, before the match was called midway through the third set.
With the setback, Texas Tech saw its two-match win-streak snapped.
SCOUTING THE CYCLONES:
Iowa State enters the weekend with an 11-2 record overall. The Cyclones went a perfect 11-0 in non-conference play, before dropping a pair of matches to Baylor (4-3) and Texas (6-1). Before losing to Baylor and UT, Iowa State was a perfect 4-0 against teams ranked inside the ITA rankings. So far this season, ISU is a perfect 4-0 on the road, including a pair of wins at Purdue and VCU. The Cyclones enter the weekend ranked No. 28 in the ITA rankings and feature one ranked singles player. Naklo Thasaporn is 18-7 this season in dual action and is ranked 68th overall. Iowa State associate head coach Kenna Kilgo is a former Lady Raider. Kilgo graduated from Tech back in 2015 and was the first Lady Raider to participate in four-straight NCAA Tournaments. Kilgo led Tech to the first Sweet 16 in program history back in in 2014-15.
SCOUTING DU:
Denver enters the weekend at 9-4 overall, and a perfect 4-0 in Summit League play. Winners of eight straight, Denver will play SMU on Thursday afternoon in Lubbock, before playing Texas Tech on Saturday. Denver's last loss occurred over a month ago, a 5-2 setback against Big 12 foe Baylor. Denver began its eight-match winning streak with a pair of Power-Five victories over Utah and Iowa. Ranked 60th overall in this week's ITA rankings, Denver is 51-22 (.699) in singles action this season.
SCOUTING WVU:
The WVU Mountaineers enter Sunday's match at 7-9 Overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play. The Mountaineers opened Big 12 play last weekend with a pair of home losses to Texas and Baylor. The Mountaineers were swept last Friday by Texas (7-0), before falling 5-2 to the Bears. WVU begins the weekend Friday afternoon with a 1:30 p.m. match at TCU. Overall, the Mountaineers have lost six of their last seven matches, including a pair of setbacks against Penn (6-1) and Delaware (4-3). The lone win in that stretch was a 7-0 sweep against Towson. So far this spring, WVU has been led by Camilla Bossi. Bossi is 8-2 in her last 12 matches and is a combined 11-3 at slots five and six. The Mountaineers are 1-11 in Big 12 singles play this season. WVU does have one of the top double's teams in the Big 12, as Bossi and Ting-Pei Chang are 8-2 overall. The duo became the first WVU doubles team in program history to earn an ITA ranking this week, when they checked in at No. 42.
SCOUTING UTRGV:
Winners of four straight matches, UTRGV enters the weekend at 10-4 overall and a perfect 2-0 in WAC play. The match against Texas Tech will be UTRGV's third of the weekend, as the Vaqueros open the weekend Friday with a 2 p.m. match against WAC foe New Mexico State in Stephenville. UTRGV will face UTEP on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. before making the trek to Lubbock. UTRGV's last loss came Mar. 6 at D-II St. Mary's.
