
Tech opens Big 12 Championship Friday at Noon

The sixth-seeded Lady Raiders will clash with No. 3 Oklahoma State
FORT WORTH --Â Â The Texas Tech women's tennis team is gearing up for the Big 12 Tennis Championships at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center this Friday through Sunday (Apr. 22-24).
Texas Tech (14-9) enters as the No. 6 seed and will play No. 3 Oklahoma St. (17-4) on Friday afternoon at noon. Â
No. 7 Iowa State and No. 9 Kansas State were already victorious on Thursday morning and will advance to meet No. 2 Texas and No. 1 Oklahoma respectively. Â
The winner of Friday's second round match will advance to meet either No. Texas or No. 7 ISU. The winner of Baylor and Kansas will get the winner of OU and K-State on Saturday. Â

Last Time Against Oklahoma State:Â
Oklahoma State edged the Texas Tech women's tennis team 4-2 at the McLeod Tennis Center. Tech started the match strong as Metka Komac and Olivia Peet cruised to a 6-3 doubles win on court No. 3, while Avelina Sayfetdinova and Kailey Evans brought down the 14th-ranked duo of Rioux and Miyamoto to give Tech an early 1-0 lead.  Komac scored the lone point for Tech in singles play, as she defeated No. 104 Oona Orpana in three sets (6-1, 2-6, 6-2). Oklahoma State managed to emerge victorious in three out of four three-set singles matches, securing the win.  Â
Tech at the Big 12 Championships:Â Â
The Lady Raiders have had a history of success at the Big 12 Championships. In the last six Championships, Tech has appeared in four finals, including their first title in 2017, when they defeated Oklahoma State, 4-2. The last time Tech played Oklahoma State in the Championships was in 2018, when Tech brought down the Cowgirls 4-1 in the semifinals. Â
UP NEXT: Following the conclusion of the 2022 Big 12 Championship, Tech will await its postseason fate. Ranked No. 28 in the final regular season ITA rankings, Texas Tech will look to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th straight season (excludes the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season where the NCAA Tournament was canceled). Â
