Amy Taylor wrapped the three-day Big 12 Championships in a tie for 13th place
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 23 Texas Tech could not mount a rally to move up the leaderboard at the Big 12 Championships on Sunday as the Red Raiders dropped to an eighth-place finish following a 25-over-par 309 final round at The Clubs at Houston Oaks.
Kansas moved past the Red Raiders over the final 18 holes as Texas Tech closed the three-day event at 61-over 913 for the tournament, 10 back of the Jayhawks. The Red Raiders started the tournament in sixth place, only eight strokes off the lead, following Friday's opening round before struggling to a combined 49-over for the final 36 holes. Â
Texas held on to win the conference title as the Longhorns were 14-over during their final round to outlast both Oklahoma State and Baylor by three strokes. Texas was 24-over for the tournament followed by Oklahoma State and Baylor and then Iowa State (38-over) and TCU (39-over) in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Amy Taylor was Texas Tech's highest finisher as the senior just missed out on another top-10 showing at the conference tournament after signing for a 4-over 75 card Sunday. Taylor, who finished tied for 10th in the conference a year ago, closed the tournament at 10-over overall and in a tie for 13th place on the individual leaderbaord.
Chiara Horder followed two strokes back of Taylor in a tie for 19th place after recording a 6-over card for the second-consecutive day. Gala Dumez and Anna Dong contributed Texas Tech's other two counting scores at 7-over and 8-over, while Chelsea Romas rounded out the lineup at 10-over.
Despite the disappointing finish, the Red Raiders won't have to wait long to hear their postseason fate as NCAA Regional selections will be announced at 3 p.m. Wednesday live on Golf Channel. A total of 72 teams and 36 individuals will be picked for the NCAA Regional round, which will run May 9-11 at six sites, including the UNM Championship Course (New Mexico), U-M Golf Course (Michigan), Karsten Creek Golf Club (Oklahoma State), Seminole Legacy Golf Club (Florida State), Stanford Golf Club (Stanford) and Vanerbilt Legends Club (Vanderbilt).
Postseason play has become the norm for the Red Raiders under head coach JoJo Robertson, who has led Texas Tech to an NCAA Regional in all but one of her 12 previous seasons as head coach (10 selections total). Robertson leads all head coaches in school history for NCAA selections.
