Preview: Texas Tech at Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship

The sixth-seeded Red Raiders will have a rematch with the third-seeded Texas Longhorns in the first round Thursday.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Softball (22-26, 5-13) will enter the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship as the sixth seed and square off against the three seed Texas (37-16-1, 12-6) Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. at USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City.
The Oklahoma Sooners earned the No. 1 seed followed by No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Iowa State, No. 5 Baylor, No. 6 Texas Tech and No. 7 Kansas. The tournament will be a single-elimination bracket format for the first time since the championship was brought back in 2017.

The Red Raiders will face the Longhorns for the fourth time in two weeks when the two teams meet up in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.
Texas swept Tech in the regular season series finale, but the Red Raiders played two close games against the Longhorns losing by a run each. The Red Raiders hit five home runs against the Longhorns, the most by Tech in a Big 12 series this season.
Last season Texas swept Tech in Austin, but the Red Raiders got the better of the Longhorns in the Big 12 Tournament, defeating Texas 5-1 in the third-place game. Tech is 11-52 all-time against Texas and 2-5 against the Longhorns in the Big 12 Tournament.
Tech holds an 18-26 Big 12 Championship record and is 9-10 in tournament openers. Last season, the Red Raiders went 2-1 taking third place in the tournament as the sixth seed.
