Taylor registered the third-lowest scoring average in program history after posting 71.9 strokes per round
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior golfer Amy Taylor was named to the All-Big 12 golf team Friday after turning in her best season to lead the Red Raiders to their fourth NCAA Regional appearance of her tenure.
It marked the first All-Big 12 selection for Taylor, who led the Red Raiders with a 71.9 stroke average that was a full two strokes better than her career mark heading into the season. Taylor appeared in all 12 events on the season for the Red Raiders, registering three top-five finishes at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate (t-4th), the Columbia Classic (t-2nd) and the ICON Invitational (2nd).
In fact, the scoring average marked the third-lowest by a Red Raider in program history, trailing only a pair of strong seasons from Sofia Garcia. Taylor is only the third Red Raider all-time to average less than 72.0 strokes per round in a season as Garcia compiled a 71.6 clip in 2018-19 before an even-better 71.2 average the following year.
Taylor was at par or better in 17 of 36 rounds this season, which ranked tied for second for the most in single-season school history. Since Golfstat started tracking in-depth statistics at the start of the 1993-94 season, she is the only Red Raider to have her score count in every round played throughout the season. She did so in all 36 rounds this season.
Taylor led the Red Raiders back to the NCAA Regional round thanks in part to 117 birdies, the third-highest total since the start of the 1993-94 campaign. It was the 11th time the Red Raiders had been selected to a regional under head coach JoJo Robertson and the 21st time in program history.
Taylor wrapped her career by finishing tied for 25th at the NCAA Stanford Regional with a 5-over-par 218 final card. Texas Tech was tied for seventh as a team, falling just shy of the cut of top-four schools to advance to the NCAA Championships.
Taylor joins Valentina Gilly as the lone Red Raiders departing from the 2021-22 roster as Robertson will return four players from her regional lineup such as Anna Dong, Gala Dumez, Cecilie Nielsen and Chiara Horder.
